Our Story
Victoria Coleman did not grow up with wine at her family’s table in Seattle. When she moved to California, she discovered a new calling in wine. She began her career at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars under Warren Winiarski, gaining hands-on experience before pursuing formal training at UC Davis’s prestigious enology program.
From there, her path to becoming Napa Valley’s first Black female head winemaker was defined not by convention but by conviction. Along the way, she has earned critical acclaim for her wines across a wide range of varietals, styles and continents. In 2015, her Lobo Wines Wulff Cabernet Sauvignon received 96 points from Decanter and was named the top California Cabernet in a blind tasting of nearly 200 wines.
Today, Victoria is building on that legacy with the creation of her own label. Crafted in small lots with clarity, balance, and depth, her wines honor the classic traditions she reveres while carrying her vision for the future.
Victoria’s story is defined by persistence, excellence, and a trailblazing spirit that continues to inspire and expand what is possible in Napa Valley.
The name Joviah is drawn from the Hebrew “Jovia,” meaning God is gracious and happiness. That spirit of grace, gratitude, and generosity lives at the heart of everything Victoria creates. Joviah is a tribute to the mentors, friends, and family who lifted her up and believed in what was possible before it existed.
Each bottle is an expression of place and purpose. Crafted with intention and care, Joviah wines are pure and elegant, a reflection of the land and the people who shaped the journey. They are grounded in old-world technique but driven by a modern sense of clarity and restraint.
Joviah is a celebration of heritage and hope. It stands as a testament to mentorship, community, and the quiet power of staying true to one’s path. With every bottle, a story unfolds—a story of resilience, grace, and the pursuit of excellence meant to inspire and empower the next generation.
